First Peoples / Non Timber

This program recognizes that the First Peoples' intrinsic knowledge of plants and their traditional uses is of tremendous importance and economic value. In conjunction with Professor Nancy Turner's research group at University of Victoria, Global Forest is working with several First Nations groups to record and study indigenous plant knowledge and uses. Non timber forest products - products other than cut trees - are being studied as economically viable and ecologically sustainable alternatives to simply harvesting the forest for its fiber.
