The economic worldwide threat of spreading foreign defoliators is of grave concern for all citizens and forest stakeholders. The Global Forest Insect Quarantine Facility located at Simon Fraser University, British Columbia is a leading research lab in western North America developing a proactive front line defense system fighting foreign insects. In conjunction with the USDA and several eminent entomology (insect) labs, this facility is used to protect Canada's forests.
