Beech
American BeechFagus grandifolia Ehrh.
American beech is a long-lived (>275 years), medium-sized (>30 m) tree. The beech nuts are an important source of food for a variety of birds and mammals. Dyes can be made from both the leaves and the bark. The roasted nut is edible and can be made into a substitute for coffee.
