Juniper
Eastern RedcedarJuniperus virginiana L.
Eastern redcedar is a small (>8 m) tree. The wood is very aromatic and is often used to line chests or closets. French settlers are said to have named the tree "baton rouge" or "red stick", and when the same species was found in Louisiana they named their State capital after this tree.

Rocky Mt. JuniperJuniperus scopulorum Sarg.
Rocky Mountain juniper is a small (>8 m) tree. Cones of this species require 2 years to mature. Rocky Mountain juniper is dependent upon the digestive tracts of birds and small mammals to disintegrate the fleshy outer part of the cone and enable seed germination to take place in the springtime.
